Week 10 of the 2024 college football season was intense and packed with great performances from all around the country. The top contenders for the Heisman have been super consistent and there is honestly a case to be made for much more athletes as well. There were some standout performances and some bye weeks for the top contestants so let’s see how this week’s Heisman rankings shift from what we saw last week.
The poll I looked at this week on Fansided, and cross many other sports news websites, the man with the highest odds to win the Heisman is now Travis Hunter from Colorado. Despite being on a bye week, there is still a big enough case for him to retain this spot. You can’t downplay this guy’s ability to shine both on offense and on defense, putting up numbers that have never been seen before. In week 9, Travis hunter became the first player ever to become Big 12 offensive and defensives player of the week after their win against Cincinnati. With 60 receptions, 757 yards and eight touchdowns as a receiver paired with his 20 tackles, seven passes deflected and two interceptions, Hunter has become college football’s most versatile player. As Colorado’s schedule intensifies, Hunter’s need to keep up the work both on offense and defense if he wants to build a big divide between him and the rest of the athletes.
Last week, we talked about how Cam Ward topped the list and had another Heisman deserving performance in his recent game against Duke. Ward led Miami to a 53-31 comeback win, throwing 400 yards and five touchdowns. This just reinforces Ward’s reputation as an elite quarterback. His consistent performances have led Miami to an undefeated season to this point and if he continues this, Ward will be a serious threat for the award.

Ashton Jeanty certainly had the bounce back performance he needed after last week with a dominate performance against San Diego State. Rushing for 149 yards and two touchdowns, Jeanty reminded everyone why he’s been the Heisman favorite for so long. However, he did do that on 31 carries which is considered a very heavy workload for a running back but personally, I think this adds to his case as being a sturdy running back that can perform well even with significant carries. While his strong showing has kept him near the top, continuing it against tougher opponents in the coming weeks will be crucial for him to boost his chances.

With a few weeks left, the pressure is on for these athletes to keep delivering. In my opinion, Jeanty is still the most deserving for the award but I think Travis hunter is a close second. Stay tuned for more updates and in-depth analysis as the race for the Heisman heats up.
